Srimad Bhagavatam at ISKCON Newtown Kolkata – October 2026 | Srimad Bhagavatam 11.14

Below are the important points from the morning Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam classes at ISKCON Newtown Temple, Kolkata, during October 2026.
The classes cover Srimad Bhagavatam 11.14 (Canto 11, Chapter 14 of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam), “Lord Krishna Explains the Yoga System to Sri Uddhava.”

  • Verse Number: SB 11.14.12
  • Chapter Name:  Lord Krishna Explains the Yoga System to Sri Uddhava

Important Points from Translation & Purport

  • Lord Krishna says, “O learned Uddhava, those who fix their consciousness on Me, giving up all material desires, share with Me a happiness that cannot possibly be experienced by those engaged in sense gratification.”

Important Points from Class

  • We should focus on things which bring auspiciousness, peace and fulfilment in life.
  • Some say, make your karma as dharma, and by this you can attain the Supreme Goal. Some say life’s purpose is to get name and fame.
  • When Chaitanya Mahaprabhu asked Ramananda Raya what is most glorious, Ramananda Raya said, “The biggest glory is to become a devotee of Krishna.”
  • In the Purana, it is mentioned that fame goes away in due course of time, but the glories of devotees never go away. We see people still remember Prahlada Maharaja and Dhruva Maharaja; we are still singing their glories.
  • What is the use of this life if we have not become a devotee of the Lord? Devotees say that if I cannot use my body in the service of the Lord, then it is better that my body burn to ashes.
  • Ramananda Raya says to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, “The only knowledge is the knowledge to know who Krishna is and how to serve Krishna.”
  • It does not matter how many years we have lived. Most important is that whatever number of years we have lived, have we served Krishna during that time period or not.
  • When King Khatvanga came to know that he had to live for a moment, then he came from the heavenly abode to earth to practice devotion to Krishna.
  • For a fruit to get ripened, the fruit does not have to do anything; it has to just remain connected to the tree. Similarly, we have to just remain connected to the process of devotional service. We should daily do morning sadhana as given by Srila Prabhupada, whether we like it or not.
  • It is not that a devotee gets joy only when he goes back to the spiritual world. In fact, in this world too, a devotee experiences great joy in serving Krishna.
