As soon as soul look towards the Supersoul, he becomes free from all anxieties

Purushottam Nitai Das July 2, 2025

Mundaka Upanisad and Svetasvatara Upanisad say that the Supersoul and the Soul are like two birds on the same tree yet too far from each other.  The Supersoul desperately look towards the soul, but the Soul is indifferent to Supersoul’s gesture of love.

Krishna, the Supreme Lord, as Supersoul, Paramatma, is always with us in our heart yearning for our attention but we are too busy to reciprocate with him.

For millions and zillions of years he has been patiently waiting for us. One would have become hopeless by this time. But still he has the hope that a day will come when we will look towards him and say “Yes, I have been missing you”.

We are always together yet away from each other. The two of us are on the same tree. We the individual soul is busy eating the fruits of the tree and the Supersoul is just watching us. Both of us are desperate.

The Supersoul is desperately waiting for the individual soul to turn towards him, and the individual soul is desperate because he wants to enjoy this world. While endeavouring for material gain, we, the souls, go through many difficulties.

Fear and frustration become our constant companion. During this period, Supersoul continues to look towards us hoping to seek our attention. But still, we are reluctant to look towards him.

Krishna, never leaves us

Mundaka Upanisad (3.1.2) and Svetasvatara Upanisad (4.7) explain this graphically, “Although the two birds are in the same tree, the eating bird is fully engrossed with anxiety and moroseness as the enjoyer of the fruits of the tree. But if in some way or other he turns his face to his friend who is the Lord and knows His glories—at once the suffering bird becomes free from all anxieties.”

Krishna is our eternal friend, but we have forgotten our friendship with him. We independently decided to break this bond and pursue our goals separately.  Here we struggle hard to achieve something. Sometimes our endeavour fructifies and sometimes not. Whatever may be the outcome, the fruits which we get fail to keep us happy, so we continue struggling hard.

And whatever we accumulate, we leave here only because when we die, we do not carry anything with us.

When we accept a new body based on the karma we performed then again Krishna accompanies us. And he has been doing so again and again, life after life.

He is not upset by our constant neglect. He never leaves us. Just like a true friend he hopes that a day will come when we will remember him, embrace him and will say with deep love, “Yes Krishna, I have been missing you. I love you.”

As soon as we will turn towards Krishna, we will be free from all sufferings and enjoy a happy life with Krishna. But if we continue to look away from him then we will continue to suffer.

Three Reflections

  • Krishna, the Supreme Lord, as Supersoul, Paramatma, is always with us in our heart yearning for our attention but we are too busy to reciprocate with his gesture of love.
  • When he turns his face to his friend who is the Lord and knows His glories—at once the suffering bird becomes free from all anxieties.
  • But if he continues to look away from the Lord, he will continue to suffer.

Ask Yourself

  • How many times do I remember Krishna in a day?

Action Item

  • Make it a point to remember Krishna constantly
    • In the morning chant the Hare Krishna Mahamantra.
    • In the afternoon say a prayer to Krishna for at least 5 minutes.
    • In the night before going to sleep read Krishna book for 30 minutes.

Krishna who resides within our heart is always watching us | Srimad Bhagavatam 6.3.16

Krishna who resides within our heart is always watching us | Srimad Bhagavatam 6.3.16

Although we cannot see the Supreme Lord Krishna who as Supersoul resides within our heart, but he is always watching us. He is the one who constantly directs the activities of the living entities. Srila Prabhupada writes in the purport of SB 6.3.16, “..every living being acts according to the direction of the Supersoul, who is situated within the heart.”

The different limbs of the body like hands and legs cannot see the eyes but these limbs can act properly only with the help of the eyes. When we see properly then we can walk properly and touch something appropriately.

Similarly, we are not able to see the Lord who is in our heart but without the Lord our existence is impossible.  Krishna, the Supreme Lord, again and again try to highlight in Bhagavad Gita that he is residing in the heart of each living entity as Supersoul, Paramatma.

And from the heart he watches, monitors, directs and always tries correcting us. Many times, when we try to do something wrong then we hear an inner voice cautioning us against acting whimsically. That voice is of Paramatma, the Supersoul. If we heed to the advice of the Lord, then we can save ourselves from so much suffering.

But if we ignore the good advice of the Lord and act as per our whims then we are sowing the seed of suffering. Lord always cares for us, so he is there with us always. And the Lord does not want us to suffer so he has given us the scriptures which has dos and don’ts.

Happy souls follow the advice of the Supersoul

But many times, we the adamant souls want to defy the will of the Lord. For example, we see before the Mahabharat war Krishna went as a peace messenger to the Kauravas asking them to stop acting impiously and live according to religious principles. But foolish Duryodhana not just refused to listen to Krishna, but he even tried to capture and imprison him.

But who can bind the Lord?

Like Duryodhana if we too try to go against the will of the Lord and act then like the son of the blind king, we too will face defeat in all our pursuit. But like Arjuna, if we follow the direction of the Lord then we will always be victorious.  Krishna is always watching us. And what we get in life is how we act.  Happy souls follow the advice of the Supersoul.

So, we should regularly read scriptures like Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, listen to the lectures of Srila Prabhupada, it will help us to understand what is good for our future and what is bad. When in doubt, we should always consult a senior and serious devotee of Krishna, he will show us the right path. Remember Krishna is constantly watching us, so let us not try to displease him.

Three Reflections:

  1. Krishna as Supersoul resides within our heart.
  2. We cannot see him in the heart, but he directs all our activities.
  3. If we act as per his will then success is for sure.

Ask Yourself?

  • Am I acting whimsically or as per the guidelines given by Krishna in the scriptures?

Action Item

  • While doing anything refer the scriptures, list to lecture of Prabhupada and take guidance from a senior and sincere devotee of Krishna.

He is such a dear friend, let us not neglect him

Purushottam Nitai Das February 14, 2013
Sometimes a child becomes too adamant and wants to run away from house to be all alone. But his concerned mother does not leave him alone. She hides and keeps a vigil to ensure that nothing wrong happens to his little kid. Similarly when we rebel against the Lord in the spiritual world and decide to leave him to lead an independent life then Lord reluctantly allows us to have our way. However he is too concerned about our well – being, so he accompanies us in this material world.

As a Paramatma, he always resides within our heart. Srila Prabhupada explains that there are two kinds of soul – the minute particle soul (anu – atma) and the Supersoul (vibhu – atma): (Bhagavad – Gita purport 2.20). Katha Upanisad (1.2.20) explains: “Both the Supersoul [Paramatma] and the atomic soul [jivatma] are situated on the same tree of the body within the same heart of the living being, and only one who has become free from all material desires as well as lamentations can, by the grace of the Supreme, understand the glories of the soul.

In this world the Supersoul (Paramatma) does not interfere with our free will and allows us to have our own way but through various means he reminds us that this world is not our real home and we should immediately return back to our original home which is the spiritual world. He sometimes descends personally as Lord Krishna & Lord Rama to call us back and at other times through scriptures and his devotees he remind us of our original home which we have abandoned. He is our closest, oldest and true friend who always thinks of our happiness.  When we leave this body and enter into a new body based on our own karma then he again accompanies us. He is always with us whether we are in a human body, a fish body, a dog body, a bird’s body etc. He never abandons us.

In this world we face so many difficulties but due to our insatiable material desires and ego we refuse to turn towards God.  Lord as Paramatma is residing within our heart and is eagerly waiting for our loving reciprocation. Once we turn towards him then all our miseries will vanish just as darkness disappears the moment the sun appears.
