It is natural for the soul who is part and parcel of Krishna to become joyful upon reuniting with Krishna.
So, when Krishna entered the womb of Devaki, she became effulgent and was in great bliss. When Kamsa saw this, he was perturbed. “How can this be possible?”, he thought. “Immediately after her marriage I had thrown her inside a prison along with her husband, Vasudev.”
Any newlywed girl has lots of expectations and plans in her heart to start a new life with her husband. But to her misfortune instead of living like a queen with her husband in the palace, she was suffering inside a prison bound by iron shackles and chains.
Not just that, her newborn children were being killed one by one by Kamsa brutally. Six of her children died in this way and the seventh was Lord Balarama who was mystically transferred from her womb to Rohini’s womb.
After so much physical and mental torture Kamsa thought Devaki will be miserable. But he saw the opposite. Although he was inimical to the Lord like all other materialists who want to deny the Supremacy of the Lord, he could infer that Krishna is already descended in the womb of Devaki.
Soul who is an eternal part of Krishna automatically becomes joyful upon reuniting with Krishna. Just like a little baby may be wailing unconsolably but as soon as he sees his mother, he immediately forgets all the pain and his face lightens up.
Welcome Krishna in life and say goodbye to all sufferings
We are morose because we are reluctant to allow Krishna to reside in our heart. We want to enjoy life without Krishna. It’s like trying to quell darkness without light. Krishna is light and he can only illuminate our heart.
Darkness envelops us when we turn away from Krishna and becomes a puppet of maya. Her illusory energy bewilders us, and we spend all our energy and might running after sensory pleasures in spite of knowing its temporary nature.
Kamsa wanted to enjoy like Krishna, the Supreme God, so he did not like Krishna. Like Kamsa we too think we can go against the will of Krishna. It was not that Kamsa did not believe in Krishna. In spite of knowing who Krishna is, he wanted to kill Krishna.
Many times, we accept Krishna as the Lord but still we do not want to surrender to that Supreme Lord. We want to enjoy independent from him. But it does not work out. Kamsa did not succeed; we too will fail too.
But those who always keep Krishna in the centre celebrate their life in spite of so called material difficulties. Just by enthroning Krishna in her heart Devaki’s all miseries just disappeared. If we too follow the footsteps of Devaki then we too will be happy, cheerful and jubilant always. Away from Krishna, the soul suffers but with Krishna the soul becomes joyful.
The sufferings of this temporary material world are temporary, and it does not affect our soul. So, sincere devotees are able to transcend material sufferings.
They are always happy because they are always engaged in chanting and hearing the names, forms and glories of Krishna.
“Such a liberated person is not attracted to material sense pleasure but is always in trance, enjoying the pleasure within. In this way the self-realized person enjoys unlimited happiness, for he concentrates on the Supreme.” Bhagavad Gita 5.21
